<p><a href="http://sasha-lapointe.com/"><em>Sasha LaPointe</em></a><em>&nbsp;is from the Upper Skagit and Nooksack Indian Tribe. Native to the Pacific Northwest, she draws inspiration from her coastal heritage as well as her life in the city. She writes with a focus on trauma and resilience, ranging topics from PTSD, sexual violence, the work her great grandmother did for the Lushootseed language revitalization, to loud basement punk shows and what it means to grow up mixed heritage. With strange obsessions revolving around&nbsp;</em>Twin Peaks<em>, the Seattle music scene, and Coast Salish Salmon Ceremonies, Sasha explores her own truth of indigenous identity in the Coast Salish territory.</em></p>



<p><em>She is the author of the memoir&nbsp;</em><a href="https://www.counterpointpress.com/dd-product/red-paint/">Red Paint: The Ancestral Autobiography of a Coast Salish Punk</a><em>. Her collection of poetry,&nbsp;</em>Rose Quartz<em>&nbsp;will be published by&nbsp;</em><a href="https://milkweed.org/"><em>Milkweed</em></a><em>&nbsp;in Spring, 2023.</em></p>

<p><a href="https://www.neemaavashia.com/"><em>Neema&nbsp;Avashia</em></a><em>&nbsp;was born and raised in southern West Virginia to parents who immigrated to the United States from India. Her essay collection,&nbsp;</em><a href="https://wvupressonline.com/node/903">Another Appalachia</a><em>, attempts to reconcile her nostalgia for the place she grew up with the troubling realities of unemployment and addiction that confront the state today, while exploring how the lessons she learned in childhood continue to shape her identity in the present.</em></p>



<p><em>Avashia has been a history and Civics teacher in the Boston Public Schools since 2003, and often writes opinion pieces and commentary regarding her experiences as an educator. Excerpts of&nbsp;</em>Mothertrucker<em>&nbsp;won an Individual Excellence Award from the Ohio Arts Council, and in July 2019,&nbsp;</em>Mothertrucker<em>&nbsp;was optioned by Makeready Films for film development with Primetime Emmy-winning Joey Soloway directing and Academy and Golden Globe-winning actress Julianne Moore in a starring role. Butcher’s first book,&nbsp;</em><a href="https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/317038/visiting-hours-by-amy-butcher/">Visiting Hours</a><em>, earned starred&nbsp;reviews and praise from&nbsp;</em>The New York Times Sunday Review of Books, NPR, The Star Tribune, Kirkus Reviews, Glamour, Cosmopolitan<em>,&nbsp;and others.</em></p>



<p><em>Butcher earned her MFA from the University of Iowa’s Nonfiction Writing Program and is the 2012-2013 recipient of Colgate University’s Olive B. O’Connor Creative Writing Fellowship in nonfiction, as well as grants and awards from the Vermont Studio Center, the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, the Academy of American Poets, the Ohio Arts Council, Word Riot Inc., and the Stanley Foundation for International Research. She is the Director of Creative Writing and an Associate Professor of English at Ohio Wesleyan University and teaches annually at the Iowa Summer Writing Festival and the Sitka Fine Arts Camp in Sitka, Alaska.</em></p>

<p><em>Julia Ridley Smith is the author of</em><a href="https://ugapress.org/book/9780820360416/the-sum-of-trifles/"><em>&nbsp;</em>The Sum of Trifles</a><em>, a memoir in essays about the process of dispersing her parents’ belongings after their death, with each essay focusing on a different object. Her short stories and essays have appeared in</em>&nbsp;Alaska Quarterly Review, Ecotone, Electric Literature<em>, the&nbsp;</em>New England Review,&nbsp;<em>and&nbsp;</em>The Southern Review<em>, among other publications, and her nonfiction was recognized as notable in&nbsp;</em>The Best American Essays 2019<em>. After earning her MFA from Sarah Lawrence College, she worked for nearly twenty years as a freelance copy editor of academic books. She’s taught creative writing and literature at UNC Greensboro, as well as art-based writing workshops for educators and other adults at the Weatherspoon Art Museum. She is the 2021-22 Kenan Visiting Writer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and lives in her hometown of Greensboro, NC.</em></p>



<p><em>This month’s guest Non-Fiction by Non-Men interviewer is Ashley Trebisacci. She currently works as a Study Abroad Advisor at Brandeis University, and her writing has been published by&nbsp;</em>The Journal of College Student Development&nbsp;<em>and&nbsp;</em>Sinister Wisdom<em>. They live outside of Boston with their wife, who just so happens to be Julia’s literary agent.</em></p>
