<p><a href="https://www.lindahoganwriter.com/"><em>Linda Hogan</em></a><em> is a Chickasaw poet, essayist, and novelist, who has worked as a volunteer in wildlife and raptor rehabilitation. She is the author of </em><a href="https://www.beacon.org/The-Radiant-Lives-of-Animals-P1606.aspx">The Radiant Lives of Animals</a>, <a href="https://wwnorton.com/books/9780393322477">Dwellings: A Spiritual History of the Living World</a>, <a href="https://coffeehousepress.org/products/the-book-of-medicines">The Book of Medicines</a>,<em> and </em><a href="https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Solar-Storms/Linda-Hogan/9780684825397">Solar Storms</a>,<em> among others. In 1995 she organized a conference for tribal elders on endangered species and was part of a working group for Native input into the reauthorization of the Endangered Species Act. Her lifelong area of interest has been the traditional relationship between indigenous peoples and animals. Hogan is a professor emerita at the University of Colorado, former faculty at the Indian Arts Institute, the writer-in-residence for The Chickasaw Nation, and she was a Pulitzer Prize Finalist for her novel </em><a href="https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/MEAN-SPIRIT/Linda-Hogan/9781501112454">Mean Spirit</a>. <em>She lives in Colorado.</em></p>

<p><em>Maddalena Bearzi is the author of&nbsp;</em><a href="https://www.heydaybooks.com/catalog/stranded/">Stranded: Finding Nature in Uncertain Times</a>&nbsp;<em>and&nbsp;</em><a href="https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/chicago/D/bo10896892.html">Dolphin Confidential: Confessions of a Field Biologist</a><em>, and she is the coauthor of&nbsp;</em><a href="https://www.hup.harvard.edu/catalog.php?isbn=9780674046276">Beautiful Minds: The Parallel Lives of Great Apes and Dolphins</a><em>. Bearzi is president and cofounder of Ocean Conservation Society. She holds a PhD in biology and a postdoctorate from UCLA, and she has been involved in studying marine mammals, with a conservation bias, since 1990. Her research on dolphins and whales off California represents one of the longest investigations worldwide, and she has published several scientific peer-reviewed papers.</em>&nbsp;<em>Her work and books have been covered by CNN, NPR, KPCC,&nbsp;Al Jazeera America, the Hallmark Channel, the&nbsp;Los Angeles Times, the&nbsp;Wall Street Journal, the&nbsp;Huffington Post, and&nbsp;American Scientist, among others. Bearzi has also been a writer for numerous media, including&nbsp;National Geographic. Born and raised in Italy, she now lives in Los Angeles with her husband and dog.</em></p>

She was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2020 for explanatory reporting, and her coverage of&nbsp;</em><a href="https://www.latimes.com/projects/la-coast-ddt-dumping-ground/"><em>a toxic dumpsite in the deep ocean</em></a><em>&nbsp;has been featured in the “Best American Science and Nature Writing” anthology. Forna’s&nbsp;</em><a href="https://aminattaforna.com/articles-and-essays.html"><em>essays</em></a><em>&nbsp;have appeared in&nbsp;Freeman’s,&nbsp;Granta,&nbsp;The Guardian,&nbsp;LitHub,&nbsp;The Nation,&nbsp;The New York Review of Books,&nbsp;The Observer&nbsp;and&nbsp;Vogue. She has written stories for BBC radio and written and presented television documentaries including “The Lost Libraries of Timbuktu” (BBC Television, 2009) and “Girl Rising” (CNN, 2013). Forna is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and a member of the Folio Academy. She has acted as judge for the Samuel Johnson Prize, the Bailey Prize for Women’s Fiction, the Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award, the Caine Prize and the International Man Booker Prize. In 2003, Forna established the&nbsp;</em><a href="https://aminattaforna.com/rogbonko.html"><em>Rogbonko Project</em></a><em>&nbsp;to build a school in a village in Sierra Leone. The charity has also run a number of projects in the spheres of adult education, sanitation and maternal health.</em></p>

Previously, she was the executive editor of Vogue.com and the senior features editor at MarieClaire.com, and she was a guest editor for the 2019 special Pride section of&nbsp;</em>The New York Times<em>&nbsp;commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots. Beck’s literary criticism and reporting have appeared in TheAtlantic.com, Out, TIME, TheGuardian.com, Esquire.com, Vogue.com, MarieClaire.com, among others. Her short stories have been published in Slice, Kalyani Magazine, and Apogee Journal. She has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and serves on the board of directors of Nat.Brut, an art and literary magazine, as well as on the advisory board of GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics.
