Erica Berry is the author of Wolfish: Wolf, Self, and the Stories We Tell About Fear. Her essays and journalism appear in Outside, Catapult, Wired, The Yale Review, The Guardian, Literary Hub, Gulf Coast, The New York Times Magazine, Colorado Review, The Atlantic, and Guernica, among others. Berry was the 2019-2020 National Writers’ Series Writer-in-Residence and Teaching Fellow at Front Street Writers in Traverse City, Michigan. She graduated from Bowdoin College in 2014, and received her MFA from the University of Minnesota as a College of Liberal Arts Fellow in 2018. Berry now lives in her hometown of Portland, Oregon, where she works as a Writer-in-the-Schools.

Sabrina Imbler is the author of How Far the Light Reaches: A Life in Ten Sea Creatures and a staff writer at Defector, an employee-owned sports and culture website. Previously Sabrina worked as a reporting fellow on the science and health desk of The New York Times. Okay so I really dropped the ball on consistent monthly Non-Fiction by Non-Men interviews since my book came out but hey that doesn’t mean I am any less excited about this conversation with Robin Lee Carlson!!!

Robin Lee Carlson is a natural science writer, illustrator, and the author of The Cold Canyon Fire Journals, a close study of fire ecology in the Western environment based on six years’ careful observation, research, and illustration at Stebbins Cold Canyon Reserve, which burned in 2015 and again in 2020. After studying evolutionary biology at UC Santa Cruz and the University of Chicago, Carlson spent many years working on stream habitat restoration projects in California. She is most interested in how landscapes and ecological communities change over time, especially ecosystem dynamics after disruption. Grace Lavery is a writer, editor, and academic living in Brooklyn, NY. As an Associate Professor of English, Critical Theory, and Gender & Women’s Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, her research explores the history and theory of aesthetics and interpretation, with particular interests in psychoanalysis, literary realism, and queer and trans cultures. She is the author of Quaint, Exquisite: Victorian Aesthetics and the Idea of Japan, which published by Princeton University Press in 2019, and her speculative memoir, Please Miss: A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Penis, which was published by Seal Press in 2022. Grace has a husband named Daniel and a Japanese Chin named Bon-Bon. She enjoys cooking and walking.

Judy Bolton-Fasman is the author of Asylum: A Memoir of Family Secrets. Her essays and reviews have appeared in major newspapers, essay anthologies, and literary magazines. She is the recipient of numerous writing fellowships, and a two-time Pushcart Prize nominee.

Sasha LaPointe is from the Upper Skagit and Nooksack Indian Tribe. Native to the Pacific Northwest, she draws inspiration from her coastal heritage as well as her life in the city. She writes with a focus on trauma and resilience, ranging topics from PTSD, sexual violence, the work her great grandmother did for the Lushootseed language revitalization, to loud basement punk shows and what it means to grow up mixed heritage. With strange obsessions revolving around Twin Peaks, the Seattle music scene, and Coast Salish Salmon Ceremonies, Sasha explores her own truth of indigenous identity in the Coast Salish territory.

She is the author of the memoir Red Paint: The Ancestral Autobiography of a Coast Salish Punk. Her collection of poetry, Rose Quartz will be published by Milkweed in Spring, 2023.
